Hey people! This is just a thought…
Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) most popularly used in Call Centers, is the fastest-growing industry in the Philippines. In fact, it is said to be the industry that would save the Philippines from poverty. In the next five years, it is projected to employ more than 300, 000 people. This means then that the current call centers in Manila and other big cities cannot possibly respond to the growth of the industry. Thus, small-scale and medium-scale (call center) cottage industries in the provinces are encouraged. Some businesses, schools, internet cafes and individuals are now tapped to put up a call center in the provinces. (Why businesses, schools, internet cafes and some individuals? Because they have already the computers and internet connection primarily needed for the industry. Instead of these computers lying dead in the middle of the night, they can be used to generate income, in dollars! Earn peso by day, dollar by night!) This will also help solve the unemployment problem in the country. Besides, by putting up a call center in the province, people would not anymore go to Manila to work in a call center and earn the same 20 to 40 thousand a month or more. Plus, the cost of living in the province is lesser, so people could save more for the rainy days.
We just need to have the peopleâ€â€agents, supervisors, admins, etc.-- trained by experts in the field. And of course, this would entail big capital but who cares? When you get revenues up to 40 to 60 percent a month?
I just believe we, ourselves, have to DO something to save us from this degrading poverty. We have the human resource and we can easily be trained (in fact, some of the tagon-ons are in call centers in big cities). We don’t have to wait for somebody else to create employment opportunities for us but we have to create jobs for ourselves.
The big question now is… Who is willing to invest and help fellow tagon-ons? Tagindeco? Any other local businessman? How about the local government of Tago?
Again this is just a thought… but if anybody is interested, you know what to do…
Note: Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) occurs when a firm subcontracts a business function such as telemarketing, document management, financial services, and info technology to an outside supplier.
