hey guys,
it's true! tandag's application for citihood has been approved along with two other towns in agusan del sur. I read it in an op-ed article in the Inquirer last week.
Tandag started applying for citihood years back, during the watch of Mayor Abeth Ty. It's just that the application encountered some snags until it was overtaken by the decision of the national government to declare a moratorium on citihood application approval. bislig was part of the the last batch of cities whose application was approved.
with increased Internal Revenue Allotment, it is expected that Tandag can have its road paved, which Tago has done a long, long time ago.

I have my reservation on the conversion of Tandag to Cityhood. This is also the rationale being refuted by the LCP. Perhaps, Tandag as a capital of Surigao Del Sur, which happens to be the Arroyo administration's stalwart province is the compelling reason for its approval to Cityhood.
I am against not because of being a non-tandaganon...I am against because yet again, it breaches our constitution.
The Local Government Code of 1991 states that a municipality must satisfy the three basic criteria for them to be converted into cities. These include an income of not less than P100 million, a population of 150,000 and land area of not less than 1,000 sq./km.
While Tandag earned only P35 million, with a population of 44,327 and land area of 250 s.q/km. It basically fails to reach the minimum requirements provided by the Local Government Code.
Fyi. It's for you to judge.

Para sa ako, premature pa. I agree with Bonsal. Kun wara nay tri-sikad puwede na, pero ad-on kuman, probinsyaher pa gayud. Mag lisud kita pag overtake sa National Highway kay an tri-sikad kaliwa-tuo, way say lagi bala-ud concerning tri-sikad, dili madakop kay waray mag lisensya. Pero sakto si Sapa, kun sin-0 an yakapwesto. Wow, Tandag City, kalami pamati-on. Un hon pag kadto? Asian Spirit three times a week na twelve seater. Buto an imo talinga, bungo pag kawas sa eroplano. Sigi dakan, at least remembrance ini nan performance ni Brod Ayek na mayor kuman. (my 2 cents)

boto ako sa iyo binigs ug admin..damo pa na kinahanglan nila atimanon, labi na an mga requirements like the population, land area and income most importantly..lami lamang pamation, bisan ako sa una elementary pa ako ga tagad na gayud daan ako na ma city na an tandag kay para may jolibee na dayon or mcdo(intawon sab!)pero kuman na bot-an na ako yaisip ko na dili baya kon dungog da lamang an ato nganhe pagaapas, kon dili an developments pareho nan karsada na ma bawodi(kibale baya dagat hehe), and of course employment..importantehe ini para sa mga residente..pero like what sapaalaska has just said, kon sin-o yaon sa pwesto yaon na sa iya unoy iya himoon..i hope he/she is wise enough in making the final decision.

For sure, the politicians in our province would again take advantage the glare of publicity. They will brag it as their major accomplishment by converting Tandag to City.
It is purely a facade to conceal the real dilemma of our province and an ornament to keep mum the state of corruption, rampant gambling, prostitution, illegal logging and proverty, which dreadfully languishing our province.
TANDAG AS A CITY? Bring it on. REGRETTABLY, IT WOULD JUST BE A CITY IN FORM BUT IN ABSENCE OF SUBSTANCE! Isn't it ironic?

But the idea of being a city itself might, well, cultivate a positive mental attitude that will bring hope to our province in general – people in the province might diligently learn how to make money by themselves, it might attract more investors, and other nice productive point of view. And oh, the ‘luxurious road’ might become more cozy to travelers. why not…who knows God knows?!
We are not blind that those who are supposed to protect the Constitution are the one’s who discreetly cracking it (not the ‘going nuts with the crack’). What’s in the Constitution might change. But, it’s either we try to improve the worst or prepare to accept the worst.Anyways, am just talking about hopes (as in lots of hope) and prayers…that’s the only chances we got as to date.
p.s. at least Tago is like 7 kms.(?) away to the City?

I agree with BONSAL. To sum up, Tandag's conversion to City would pour in additional and an increase in revenue allocation, a tantamount of increase in kickbacks and corruptions. Great strategy!
